Westport Writes!
You drive down the hill and see the Atlantic Ocean before you.
You walk along the paths at the Town Farm, gazing over the hayfields.
You kayak up the river, watching the ospreys flying overhead.
No matter where you are in Westport, a beautiful landscape is somewhere nearby. How do you capture those images through words and stories? Moments of beauty, the passing seasons, the poetry of nature. You might pick up a book of poetry, or browse through a photography book. But you want those stories and images to be of your special place. So you jot down a few lines about what you saw and how it made you feel.
Now think of everyone in Westport doing that. Together. And sharing their stories.
Westport Writes! celebrates the power of creative writing and community through a town-wide project where we all write together. About where we live. The leaves in fall. The lights of winter. And the bounty of spring.
And don’t tell me you aren’t a writer. If you can speak, you can write. If you have thoughts, you can write. This project isn’t about being a great writer. It’s about telling a story together, as a town. It’s about knowing that you’re creative in more ways than you realize. It’s about our loving the same place and sharing that with each other. And think about this: magically, what you write about turns the contemporary into history. Westport 2022 will live on through your words as the Westport Historical Society digitizes and saves this project.
Who’s taking part? Everybody in Westport. (Well, that isn’t exactly true so tell your friends and if you’re part of a Westport organization that wants to be officially involved, write to info@midoricreativity.com or EMAIL US HERE.).
Where do these ideas come from, you might be thinking? At Midori Creativity, we’re all about creativity. Midori Evans, the founder of Midori Creativity, is a creative explorer and she loves to create new and unique ways to connect and really enjoys convincing people that they truly are creative.
